چکیده

Properties of a specification test for the parametric form of the variance function in diffusion processes dXt = b (t,Xt) dt + σ (t,Xt) dWt are discussed. The test is based on the estimation of certain integrals of the volatility function. If the volatility function does not depend on the variable x it is known that the corresponding statistics have an asymptotic normal distribution. However, most models of mathematical finance use a volatility function which depends on the state x. In this paper we prove that in the general case, where σ depends also on x the estimates of integrals of the volatility converge stably in law to random variables with a non-standard limit distribution. The limit distribution depends on the diffusion process Xt itself and we use this result to develop a bootstrap test for the parametric form of the volatility function, which is consistent in the general diffusion model.

A Class of Nonparametric Volatility Models: Applications to Financial Time Series

In this paper, we first examine several volatility models in the literature. We then estimate financial volatility using multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) by logarithmic transformation as a preliminary analysis to examine a nonparametric volatility model. Despite its popularity, MARS has never been applied to model financial volatility. To implement the MARS methodology in a time ...

The evaluation of Cox and Weibull proportional hazards models and their applications to identify factors influencing survival time in acute leukem

Introduction: The most important models used in analysis of survival data is proportional hazards models. Applying this model requires establishment of the relevance proportional hazards assumption, otherwise it world lead to incorrect inference. This study aims to evaluate Cox and Weibull models which are used in identification of effective factors on survival time in acute leukemia. Me...

Comparing the performance of GARCH (p,q) models with different methods of estimation for forecasting crude oil market volatility

The use of GARCH models to characterize crude oil price volatility is widely observed in the empirical literature. In this paper the efficiency of six univariate GARCH models and two methods of estimation the parameters for forecasting oil price volatility are examined and the best method for forecasting crude oil price volatility of Brent market is determined. All the examined models in this p...

Estimation of reliability-based maintenance time intervals of Load-Haul-Dumper in an underground coal mine

Reliability estimation plays a significant role in the performance assessment of mining equipment, and aids in designing efficient and effective preventive maintenance strategies. Continuous and random/irregular occurrence of failures in a system could be the main cause for performance drop of machinery. The accomplishment of a projected level of production is possible only by an efficient oper...

An Updated Review of Goodness of Fit Tests Based on Entropy

Different approaches to goodness of fit (GOF) testing are proposed. This survey intends to present the developments on Goodness of Fit based on entropy during the last 50 years, from the very first origins until the most recent advances for different data and models. Goodness of fit tests based on Shannon entropy was started by Vasicek in 1976 and were continued by many authors. In this paper, ...
